This Mocha Smoothie is a delicious way to kick start your day. It has a hint of chocolate from the cacao, a burst of energy from the coffee, and protein from the peanut butter and quinoa flakes.
Mocha Smoothie Ingredients
Coffee: When I make this smoothie at home I use my espresso machine. However, you could also use 1/2 cup of brewed coffee or instant coffee dissolved in 1/4-1/2 cup of hot water.
Cacao: I use the Power Super Foods cacao to give this smoothie a hint of chocolate flavour. All of their products are certified organic and are sourced from smallholder organic farms.
Peanut Butter: Any peanut butter will work just fine. However, I personally love Mayver’s Peanut Butter. It’s made in Australia from nothing but roasted peanuts and a pinch of salt.
Medjool Dates: This particular variety of date adds a sweet and subtle caramel-like taste to this smoothie. As an added bonus, they are also rich in fibre, antioxidants and potassium. They are larger in size compared with other varieties of dates, so I recommend chopping them into smaller pieces so they blend easier.
Quinoa Flakes: I use quinoa flakes in this recipe to ensure it is gluten-free. However, if you eat oats you could switch the quinoa flakes to oats and the recipe will work just the same.
Plant-Based Milk: Any plant-based milk will work, I recommend any from the Pure Harvest range.
Prepping and Storing
If you don’t have a lot of time during the week, this smoothie is super simple to create for breakfast or a snack. If you’re more into meal prepping on the weekend, you could make a batch and freeze it into smoothie cubes. This makes it even easier to whip up during the week.

Equipment
- High-speed blender
- 1 cup
- 1/4 cup
- Tablespoon
- Teaspoon
Ingredients
- 1 banana
- 1 date
- 1 tsp cacao
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 1/4 cup quinoa flakes (or oats if not gluten free)
- 2 shots espresso
- 1 cup plant-based milk
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and process until smooth.
- Serve as desired!
